Recently when I'm working I've been putting speeches on in the background instead of music and i've ended up listening to some pretty inspirational stuff. I came across this speech by Charlie Chaplin a while ago from his film 'the great dictator' and it is still by far my favourite. There is a normal version of it but I think the music put with this one makes it a lot more powerful, however I think the actual video distracts from the words so maybe just listen instead of watch.

We finished out projects and the aim of it was to have a 'digital' aspect to our work. Mine did not but luckily our tutor had the idea of bringing in a professional photographer to give us a class on lighting then photograph our work. I was doing a little display so I set that up and we figured out what lighting would be best and took some photos. These are the 2 best ones.

So! I've finally finished a screen print which I have been working on for a uni project about 'Totems' but sadly it didn't come out as as well as I had hoped. I wanted to do some geometric shapes in the background and thought the inside pattern on an envelope would work. I blew one up on the photocopier but I wish I'd made it bigger. The pattern overwhelms the rest of the image. It might work if the bird was bigger but....it's not?

I'm not quite sure what this is..but it's something. It's part of a uni project called 'totems' which we have to make something remotely based on a totem pole using personal elements such as hopes, fears, strengths, weaknesses and secrets.
This is a..toy type thing? Which will be used as part of a display I am putting together using repeating elements. I know quality wise it isn't amazing but I am quite proud that this is my first attempt at wood work. The screen printing is a little off but I will fix that soon!

Well! When it comes to photoshop and related programmes, I am a complete and utter failure! Today I had my first ever lesson in using illustrator. This..thing is the result of my hard and frustrating labour. I think I shall be avoiding it like the plague in future!

For a new project we had to draw a character and add an adjective from a list to the character. One of the things we had to draw was a 'decorative owl'. First I drew the owl and planned on sticking some fancy patterns on him but then I decided he'd look much better with a pair of funky earrings. He's a suave little fellow isn't he?

Well recently I've been making a lot of stuff for a craft stall Me and my friend Hannah have. The day has finally come and I'm weirdly nervous. it's at a music festival so I'm not expecting to sell much but it should still be fun! I've don't some hand drawn stuff but It's all pretty simple as I've not had that much time. Wish me luck folks!
Everything else is here:

I've always been really terrible at drawing realistic people but i've decided to try again for this project. I have to interpret a classic painting and me and my group have chosen Waterhouse's 'Hylas and the Nymphs'.
In the painting You can't see much of Hylas' face so I decided to give a proper one!
So yeah, I can only draw animals (other than cartoons) so I'm aware that this is pretty bad but I wanted to give it another go and I guess I'll have to keep practicing. He's not finished but I think I'll leave him be before he gets worse....He also looks suspiciously like Richard Madden....

Today has been warm to say the least so I've been sat in the garden drawing. Again in a style I should probably scrap but now that I'm away from uni I'm just having a bit of fun drawing. Not really sure what is going on in either image, Just having fun with coloured pencils.

These are the finished versions. The print won't be the full size of the cover. It would have a white border.
Typography really isn't my strong point at all but for the past few weeks we have had a guest tutor called Daren Newman who'd illustration work is AWESOME! (http://www.meandmypen.com/work.php)
He helped me a lot with the type but it didn't look my style on the image so i went with something a little messier. I hope it works?
We had a book cover project for a book called ''The Company of Wolves'' by Angela Carter which is a quite X rated version of little red riding hood. I had to screen print someone else's design when I started uni and I wanted to try doing it myself. These are the prints for the cover and the repeat pattern for the backing papers. I didn't screen print the text on the image because I like the print on it's own so looks like that will be a photoshop job (oh dear).

I'm doing a book cover for a take on Red riding hood and Chris wanted me to draw a wolf so this is just killing 2 birds with one stone really. Theres a lot more detail in the proper version of this. It's just a page in my sketchbook but I think i'm pretty happy with it.

A couple of weeks we were doing practice for editorial illustration. We had a choice of 4 articles and i picked one called 'the fly who bugged me' which was from science magazine. It is basically about how scientists are putting chemical substances into insects nervous systems so that they can be remote controlled and in future used as a form of surveillance (scary shit). We only had a week to do this and I was planning on screen printing it but the studio was not available when I needed it. We had a crit on a series of roughs where others in the class acted as art director. This is the image I developed from what I was told in the crit. I based the image on the all seeing eye and some images I found in an alchemy book.
I was planning on neatening my image up In photoshop but I didn't keep in mind how terrible I am when it comes to computers so spent Too long trying to scan it in to get to edit it then when I printed it into the context, the image came out so much darker than the original which really ruined it.

Last weekend I went on a really long walk and the weather was not so great. At the end of my long but lovely day I stopped off in a little pub. Pubs are my favorite place to draw so I started doodling a dog which was sat on the floor in front of me. It wasn't a particularly good drawing but a woman came up and asked if she could buy it! She told me to name a price and I have no idea about these things so I just said a fiver and she game me a tenner! What a good day!

This is a drawing I did for someone for Christmas. I was really happy with it at the time but now it looks a bit shit. It's all in cross hatch but the detail was lost when I uploaded it. The finished version is done with coloured pencil but is on printer paper so the blending isn't too great but it could be worse!

Recently we have been doing some work at a local primary school doing drawings and making things with the kids and me and a few friends were asked to do a play for them called 'captain murderer'. Now usually the thought of having to do something like that would make me feel sick to the stomach but we had so much fun! Even though the kids were too young to get some of the jokes, they were very exited when we threw the exploding captains body parts into the crowd.
