My tutors didn't feel my screen prints were strong enough to go in the age uk book so I've had to re-do it. I'm actually really sad about this. Not just because I was proud of my screen prints but more because I don't feel like this is my work. I think it looks kind of cool with the colours but it just sort of happened and looks a bit of a mess. I don't think it will look good printed either. I think I'd probably be ok with it if it weren't for the vignette it was going with (see a few posts below). I think that it's a really terrible drawing and the two don't fit together at all. I've had pretty bad reactions when showing people the new work too and some terrible ones from the vignette so I think a lot of the exitement from being in my first publication is gone. I will hopefully learn from this experience even if the lesson is just to be able to draw people better.

Age UK
These are my original pieces for the age uk book. Unfortunately my tutors felt they weren't strong enough to be in the publication. I'm actually really proud of them. I probably did about 30 and some had flowers but these are my favourite two.

Little white lies
This is work for the current brief. I'm hopefully entering the little white lies cover project for D&AD if I can get my work to standard. I'm working on the black swan one. These are my first ideas. I like the top one but from feedback, I think it's a bit too simple. The second one is more of an experiment at this point.

Age UK
I've got completely behind with this blog with recent events but I'm going to try update it a bit. I've done a lot since whenever my last work post was. Most exiting is working for a book commissioned by age UK (age concern). We spent time in care homes talking to dementia patients and had to produce work about that person. I can't write much about him for privacy reasons but we did 2 pieces each. One will be printed on the page with some accompanying text, the other on a postcard. I am really happy with my printed image but I can't post that yet. This is my postcard image which I'm really unhappy with but oh well. Drawing people just isn't my strong point.

My Uncle
This afternoon, my amazing uncle passed away. He’d been in the hospital for a while and we knew it was coming but it didn’t make it any easier.
He was a great man who always had time for me. When I was little I used to go to family dinner parties at my aunts house and being the youngest, I got very bored. I used to crawl under the table and grab Gary’s legs so he’d get up and spin me around and throw me in the air. This earned him the nickname ‘wicked uncle Gary’.
Losing him breaks my heart but it has also made me realise what an amazing family I have.
I got this locket from my Grandma for my 21st birthday. It’s the first gift my grandad ever gave her when they got engaged. It has a lovely little photo of him in his uniform and I wear it almost every day. Every time I look at it I think of him so today I stuck a little photo of Gary in next to him.
R.I.P Gary. I love you more than you could ever know.

people practice
I wan't going to post this because I really didn't like it but my mum said it was good so what the heck! I have to draw a portrait of a man to go in a book for age concern but unfortunatley, drawing people really isn't my strong point. I thought I should probably practice a bit before I draw the guy for the book so I drew a still from one of my favourite films. It needs a lot more work but I don't think i'm going to continue with it but yeah, this is Cillian Murphy as Jonathan in 'On the edge'.

TONIGHT
I am going to Leeds to watch the lovely Tony sing as versechorusverse. I am ridiculously exited. I've not seen him perform without and so I watch you from afar and it's going to be amazing.

I think everyone should listen to this.
Recently when I'm working I've been putting speeches on in the background instead of music and i've ended up listening to some pretty inspirational stuff. I came across this speech by Charlie Chaplin a while ago from his film 'the great dictator' and it is still by far my favourite. There is a normal version of it but I think the music put with this one makes it a lot more powerful, however I think the actual video distracts from the words so maybe just listen instead of watch.

Photographer
We finished out projects and the aim of it was to have a 'digital' aspect to our work. Mine did not but luckily our tutor had the idea of bringing in a professional photographer to give us a class on lighting then photograph our work. I was doing a little display so I set that up and we figured out what lighting would be best and took some photos. These are the 2 best ones.

Screen print beginning
So! I've finally finished a screen print which I have been working on for a uni project about 'Totems' but sadly it didn't come out as as well as I had hoped. I wanted to do some geometric shapes in the background and thought the inside pattern on an envelope would work. I blew one up on the photocopier but I wish I'd made it bigger. The pattern overwhelms the rest of the image. It might work if the bird was bigger but....it's not?
